Techniques to Engage Physicians in Improving Care

About the Program

The workshop relies on role plays and other interactive methods to encourage participation and application of skills to productively engage clinicians in improvement efforts within your organization.

Curriculum

Sample Agenda

The workshop will help participants:

  • Understand which clinicians to engage in your improvement project and learn about techniques/methods to engage them
  • Learn how to prepare reports and materials to assure a positive interaction with clinicians during one-on-one or group meetings
  • Use role plays to differentiate between effective and ineffective engagement strategies
  • Practice engagement techniques on interactions you have identified as particularly challenging/frustrating in your environment

Faculty

Howard Beckman, MD, FACP, FAACH, Medical Director of the Rochester IPA and Clinical Professor of Medicine and Family Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he conducts health services research and maintains a small internal medicine and pediatrics practice.

Dr. Beckman is a nationally recognized researcher known for his work on physician-patient communication, physician engagement, and partnership building in improving the value of care delivered by practitioners.

Audience

The audience for this workshop includes clinical leaders (e.g., Medical Director, Director of Nursing, Medical Director) and others (e.g. network management or quality improvement staff) who provide data and feedback to clinicians or who engage independent practices in change.

The workshop is open to all sectors: community clinics and regional consortia, health plans, IPAs, medical groups, and public hospitals.
